if you like The Power To Believe then you GOTTA get ConstruKction... Its not as angry but for the interlocking guitar stuff it cant be beat, the title track takes the cake
otherwise, its worth checking out the album Starless in Bible Black or the live album USA for the song Fracture and other great improv stuff

Fripp makes stuff like Frame By Frame look easy. He just sits there, smiling a little, his fretting fingers a blur. What a swell guy.

So has anyone given a "look" at Thrak ? There's a DVD of the double trio Thrak tour called "Vrooom Vrooom" ... mind blowing as well !

Forget the videos, you need to see the group LIVE. The sound on the video does no justice to the volume and overall sound of the group in the live setting. Tooo bad they aren't touring. And Trey Gunn is out of the group now. Fuck.

I just bought a copy of The Construction Of Light the other day & all i can say is fuckin eh in agreeance to this. This song goes totally ape shit at the 5:10 marker, fucking astounding. Fripp really kicks some kaboose.
Has anyone here heard much of Belew's recent sides trilogy or seen him play live? I'm deliberating on whether or not to go check him out in a couple of weeks.

On Starless And Bible Black there is a live performance of Fracture- the speedy riff comes in very quietly, but to my ears it sounded even quicker than FraKctured. Yeah, Fripp is capable of astounding musicianship. On the other side of the field, hear is be some stuffs. Fripp scores Vista: channel9.msdn.com/showpost.aspx?postid=151853

I downloaded the song "Level Five" last night and was pleased to hear the mighty KC finally reaching their potential again. It was everything I wanted to hear from them; everything that "The Construkction of Light" was not -- all the heaviness of "Red" updated for the 21st century, a drummer pounding for dear life on what sounds like ACTUAL ACOUSTIC DRUMS! (swear to god, Pat fucking Mastellotto actually sounds like Damon Che at a couple of points) with some electronic glitchiness flitting around the edges. It reminded yet again of what we already knew: that King Crimson really are the granddaddies to all these newer groups like Don Caballero, Loincloth and especially Behold... The Arctopus.
It inspired me to go back and reassess "Construkction" but I stand by my original opinion: it's crap. Yes, there's some shit-hot guitar work but it all sounds so fake, so processed, so soulless. I remember the band bragging that the only thing on the album recorded through a microphone was the vocals; everything else was plugged into ProTools and a million different effect boxes. Also:
1. First song is an awkward faux-blues tune with a gimmicky vocal effect and a very cringe-worthy reference to "Elephant Talk" -- not the song, but the KC internet discussion group.
2. The electronic drums sound weak and stilted throughout the album, like he's always a couple beats behind the rest of the band.
3. An even more cringe-worthy (and instantly dated) invocation by Adrian Belew to "get jiggy with it".
4. A bit where Fripp shows off his latest rack unit that makes his guitar sound like a symphony.
God, what a frustrating band! Why can't they just be good all the time?

There really is no accounting for taste! I love all the things about COL that you seem to detest. I also love Level 5- seeing Crimson play that live was a beautiful experience. Check out the older version of the tune on the Level 5 ep (if you haven't already). The solo at the end has some pretty interesting phrasing going on... Belew's guitar sounds like it has a nasty stomache virus.

Some Crimson news: Gavin Harrison has joined King Crimson, making the current lineup Fripp / Belew / LEVIN / Mastelotto / Harrison. I've never heard GH with his other group Porcupine Tree but the addition of a second drummer is probably a good move (even if it's not Bruford). I might make a serious effort to see the Crim on their next tour.
