I haven't listened to Singles in forever... so I popped it in on my drive to work, which is a ways. It kicked my ass the whole way there! I forgot how good this album is.

Third for no more peace and quiet - lately anyway. Love the last 40 seconds or so.

in no more peace and quiet, what's the odd bendy noise in the first minute or so? sounds like a cymbal being bent but i've tried that and when you start bending it you dampen it and the sond dies very quick.

damon hits the bell on one of his ride cymbals and they bend the pitch. i don't know how though.

That's what I thought, but apparently Damon had an old power saw that he'd hit and then quickly toggle the power switch to get the bend sound. Banfield explains this in an old forum thread.

"What you're hearing is an old table saw. He used it as a bell. He would hit the saw blade, and then turn the motor on and off which would vary the pitch. Somehow he broke it. Maybe it was during that recording session. Maybe even that song. Then he just decided to start sawing some old cymbals."
huh. no idea what a table saw sounds like so i'll just take his word for it... since he was there and all.

I've noticed that banfield is listed as a guest - is he not a member anymore?

I think the saw might have broke during the recording of TOKIO...
But I could be wrong
