For those of you who are up on this sort of thing, which are the Don Cab songs that are the most mind-bendingly difficult in terms of musical whizz-bangery? As in, which are the toons that have all the amateur guitar players and drummers scratching their heads in bewilderment?
The obvious answer is I guess "all of them", but as I have no idea myself, I'm wondering if any of them are particularly trickier than others (and why)?
For example, to these uneducated ears, the "For Respect" album doesn't seem as complex and "mathy" when compared alongside the trigonometry of "DC2" and the calculus of "What Burns...". Though I'm probably wrong.
And yes, the guitar tabs mean nothing to me, so I'm no further ahead by looking at them.

Well, it's my opinion (note the word opinion) that their later albums tend to be a bit more unaccesible. The earlier stuff like Don Cab 2 and For Respect have a bit more grit and intensity it seems, but there is flow and a higher degree of continuity it seems. What Burns to me is great because I see it as a bit lighter with more style and elegance, and with some extremely off-the-wall transitions and techniques. It's still rocky in all the right places though. American Don is a bit more free and jazzy and to me seems almost unaccesible in the aspect of duplicating it yourself. It's alien and way ahead of our time. But none of their material is a walk in the park. The answer lies in your own personal take on the many diverse sounds and styles that is Don Caballero.

what i want to know is how the hell they do the first part of "Don Caballero 3." that guitar (?) thing is insane! This is the closest thing i've found. It sounds pretty damn good though in context! Here is the main chord (voicing) used: e----------| B----------| G---8-----| D---8-----| A---6-----| E---6-----| Now what you do is palm mute this. Now kind of rake this up and down, and pick erratically. Make sure you fully palm mute this. And don't play the high E or B strings. Fuck w/ this, and you can get something close. There is also another guitar and bass here adding texture/layering. So this might sound sorta naked. I'm attempting to make Don Cab 3 into guitar tablature... so, if anyone has any parts, comments, or suggestions... let me know! Cheers.

For a start, you'll need to be in drop-D tuning, so with that in mind, try this instead:
E---------------- B---------------- G---------------- D-----------0---- A----0-h-5------ D--0-------------
You should palm mute it throughout, but now and again let the higher D ring a little. Also, make sure the A doesn't last too long before you hammer it down to D. Just screw around with it and randomize it a bit - you should find it sounds decent.
I have most of the album worked out, but I'm wayyy to busy in work to tab it out....sorry! Oh, and btw - this is how I remember Ian playing it in 1999, but of course with all tab it's just a subjective interpretation.
