Yeah, I've heard good things about the Boomerang.
It's pretty expensive, though.

Here is a quick rundown of the ones i've used. In general, each has its own weaknesses and strengths. I am referring to only the unit's loop delay, not the other delay features.
Akai Headrush: Easy to use, poor sound quality, lack of features. Very reliable, and the parts look standard. (i'd just like to add, the other delay's on it totally suck, it's like a $15 rocktron or something)
Boomerang: Outdated, hard to use, expensive, big, sucks, has some nice features (backwards loop) but line6 is much better in that department. Not sure about reliability, but the parts seem flimsy and hard to find if replacement is needed.
Line6: Clumsy, and stupid looking (to the point of embarassment). Controls are unintuitive. Tons of features, however. and the sound quality is very good. Poor reliability, from what I've heard.
Boss: N/A - seems promising though

So, overall, which one would be the best bet to get? Or should one just hold off until some company makes the ultimate loop pedal?

There is a pedal out there (not too sure of the exact name) called the Z-Vex Lo-Fi Loop Junky. I've heard pretty nice things about it, and I think Ian uses one in battles. It's some kind of loop pedal w/ some cool options, and very portable/easy to use.
Someone please clarify the name please (if I am wrong). I hate to make half-ass posts.

www.zvex.com/junky.htmlI forgot to check his setup at the last Battles show a few weeks ago, but at the first show I went to, Ian was using a Lo-fi Loop Junky and a headrush.

yah.. the z.vex lo fi loop junky is pretty cool, too. but it's analog not digital like the headrush, DL-4 blah blah.. so the reproduction of the original signal is not quite exact/clear.. uhmm

BTW, Dave Pajo used the Boomerang a lot in his Papa M days. To be honest, the sound quality on that 15 minute looped track on "Live from a Shark Cage" wasn't spectacular.

Are Papa M any good Brian? What do they sound like? Pajo was great in Tortoise (I love them)!

Aerial M and Papa M produced some of my favourite records of all time - go get the Aerial M album and Papa M's "Live From a Shark Cage" first. Some of their rarer releases (like the Travels in Constants stuff and the tour eps) were absolutely spectacular IMO. However, Pajo ventured deep into folk country (or deep into folk and country for his later stuff, especially most of the tracks on his last album. However, he still knows how to pull a great track out of his arse - as evidenced by the wonderful "Krusty" track on his last LP.

The link he posted is to his eBay auction. In one day it went up from a few bucks to 60, and judging by the completed auctions of other Headrushes you're not going to get it for any less than 150.

The boss loopstation isn't really all that difficult to use... the switch on the right stops the loop and the one on the left records and then after the original loop has been recorded it switches between play and overdub.
All samplers are very volitile live... it doesn't really matter which one. If you miss hitting the loop its going to sound fucked up and will surely throw off your drummer.
