I missed the (Debut) Battles in Cambridge last month, but I found a video clip of the show on the web. Now I'm very intrigued. Does anyone know if they've released anything yet? 7"? CD or LP? I can't find any info anywhere, including any label they're signed to.
Thanks.

Battles hasn't released anything yet, but maybe something will be available later this year. There was a short write-up about Battles at Pitchfork.com a few weeks ago. You can read that here: pitchforkmedia.com/news/03-04/10.shtmlPerhaps they're looking at Mike Patton's Ipecac Records. Tomahawk is on Ipecac, so who knows?

I don't know if they are signed yet, but I do know that some labels are interested. I'm looking forward to hearing some recorded material from them, definitely...

I am new here. I have heard 2 snippets of Battles stuff, and it sounds really good. Does anyone know who else is in the band besides Ian Williams and John Stanier? Those are the only 2 people I know in the band.

Those are the only 2 people I know in the band. Battles sound great just from those 2 small videos, the other 2 members of the band are guitarists Tyondai Braxton who is an avant-garde composer of some sort who's been around for a while now and Dave Konopka, formerly of Lynx who were a band who sounded kind of Don Cabbish, they brought out one album which i think is pretty good overall not quite up there with Don Caballero but who is? I can't wait for a record to come out.

I haven't seen battles yet, but I did see something several months back Ian dubbed as I WILL. kinda weird, very expeimental but not in a good way. Did BATTLES form out of that project? And was lynx the former band of modest mouse frontman,Issac Brock?

No i don't think Lynx were Issac's former band, there is little information available about them as they only released one album and a single. There good though, definitely worth checking out.

no lynx has nothing to do with modest mouse whatsoever, as evidenced by both their line-up AND the fact that they are listenable.

Yeah, and lync was awesome, they were right up there with doncab and stuff to me...sam jayne of love as laughter and james bertram who went on to play bass for built to spill in live situations were also in it, they were on k records, if this helps...seek em out.

BTW - the Battles website should be up next week (according to Ty Braxton anyway) at www.bttls.com. Enjoy!

I saw Debut Battles at Northsix when they opened for Les Savy Fav and they were fucking incredible... HOWEVER I do not think that their music will translate to a recorded medium well, because most of the thrill of seeing them live is seeing Ian play both the keyboard and guitar at the same time, and watching them using those loop pedals so that it sounds like 10 people are playing at once.
But yeah, it's definitely interesting to see, cause all three of the guitarists have very different styles that mesh well together. I'd definitely see them live again if I had the chance.
Another thing though, Pitchfork said that there was a choir of women at the first two Battle shows, and this is incorrect. They might have been at the other show, but there was definitely no choir at the show I saw.

What shows are you talking about? Like I said, Pitchfork said that there were girls on stage at their show at Northsix, and I was there and there were no girls on stage.
