Check this: The last release in the line up, which is yet to have a release date, is the sounds of Battles. It looks as though we'll see an ep from Battles some time early winter. If you don't know, Battles consists of folks who have played or play in Don Cab, Tomohawk, Helmet, and Lynx. Sounds tite right? It is. Expect more about this release later this fall as Battles hits the studio this week. www.monitorrecords.comIt's nice to know they have a soon-to-be-released ep and they're going into the studio. Right on!

I was recently on the Dim Mak records website and found news of another Battles ep (cd and 12") release in early 2004. Do you think this means they're releasing two different ep's at the same time? That would be cool as shit if they did!! If anybody finds out anything else, please keep us posted.

I'm really looking forward to hearing what Battles sounds like. (My connection too slow to view the video clips on Don Fanallero.)
I only hope Monitor Records will release the damn record when it's finished, instead of sitting on it for 14 months like they did with Bellini's Snowing Sun!

Where was that photo taken, Tikrit? I expect to see burning Jeeps in the background.

So, are they releasing 2 EP's or what? That would be cool.

yes, I'm on Tyondai Braxton's mailing list and (if I remember correctly) he said they are releasing two EP's, one for each label, and then a full-length later.

There's a small Battles update at monitorrecords.com: "The Battles EP on Monitor is due out in the winter OF 2004. Ian is still tinkering away on it! Hold your horses it will be here shortly! We promise."
It's not much, but at least they updated the news section.
Battles will also be doing a small Japanese tour with Pele in January. Here are the dates:
1/11/04 Shinjuku - Loft w/54-71, Mo'Some Tonebender, Battles (ex-Don Caballero/Helmet) 01/12/04 Shimokitazawa - Shelter w/Toe, 9 Days Wonder, Band Wagon 01/15/04 Nagoya - Tokuzo w/54-71, Battles 01/16/04 Osaka - Firefly w/Battles 01/17/04 Kyoto - Woopies w/54-71, Battles 01/19/04 Tokyo – TBA

Winter 2004? I hope they mean early winter, and not late winter.
And Pitchfork said the other day that Pele broke up.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be released in January/February.
Those dates can be considered Pele's "farewell tour"

I e-mailed Battles (through thier website) and asked about the EPs that are rumoured to be coming out and this is what they responded to me with...
"Battles is currently working on 2 albums and a 7" single for release in early 2004. Of the albums, one will be released by Monitor Records (from Baltimore) in compact disc format, and the other will be released by Dim Mak Records (from Los Angeles) in compact disc and 12" format. Coldsweat Records (also from LA) will be releasing the 7" single, which will also be released on a Coldsweat Records compilation cd in the future. We are trying to sync up these albums to be released around the same time, however, we do not have definite release dates at this juncture, for we are in the mixing/mastering stages of production. Right now, it's looking like February/March, but we'll post the actual dates on the site once we get them. Thank you for your interests and we can assure you it will not be long before you will have a Battles album in your hands. Take care, I,D,T & J> bttls"
Sounds pretty rad! I don't know if I should take this too literally or not, but they don't seem to be referring to them as EPs, which leads me to believe that they are releasing 2 full length albums. I'm pretty psyched for these albums to come out, it's kind of been a long wait, but with 2 albums, it will be well worth it.
