Here's a link to a pitchforkmedia.com news capsule posted on January 6th: www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/04-01/06.shtml#story4As mentioned in another thread, the band has 3 separate released planned in 2004. There's also a few tour dates listed, which is good news for anyone in Japan or LA.

Hm, old news, but nobody's mentioned it. The full length is supposed to be coming out on Dim Mak, and the Dim Mak website says: "January 26, 2004
BATTLES blew my fucking mind every single night they played. We broke the booking rule of having 4 shows in a row in the same city. The rule exists so that the band could have one great show. Each show was OFF THE HOOK! Spaceland sold out! Anarchist Disco Night at Echo was fucking crazy. Waste Your Youth Night at M Bar was more packed than anytime I've ever seen it. Thanks for everyone that came out. Expect the record to come out late this year, after summer. We've got a lot more development planned!" After summer...? What a bummer...

who wrote that? whoever wrote it says "they" and then "we"...which is a bit confusing. yeah i missed all of those shows. bof.
i can't really believe that they "sold out" 4 la/hollywood trendy lowball rock-clubs. and thats not talking shit. they don't even have a record yet!(good manager maybe? i didnt even see that shit in the LA weekly)...i still havent even heard an mp3!.... there really arent even that many people who know (or care) about "don caballero" out here let alone battles (i hate tyondai braxton by the way)... i would have gone to one of those shows, i was planning on BATTLiNG.
where is the mp3 everyboDY?

i have them, and you're not getting em, i've told people specifically not to share them, and they get them from me. they're not meant to be out there yet, and this is why...their albums arent coming out for a while, and they're playing a lot...so cope

where is the mp3 everyboDY? The only "official" mp3 is on Monitor's website www.monitorrecords.com and I think it's also on Battles' web site www.bttls.comIt's a "sampler" and the dj with the heavy reverb is just ridiculous - "Battles gangstas in 2004 ya'll!"

Just thought I'd add a couple comments. First, I really dig Battles, so this isn't just for the sake of talking smack: they shared those LA shows with a handful of other fairly well-known groups. So, it cannot be said that it's because of Battles that these shows were sold out. Secondly, Chad, do you hate Ty or his music, or do you hate him as a result of the music he chooses to create?

drrobot let me in on TY... he actually thought i'd "like the idea behind his solo work"....
its true jack off shit(compare the few mp3s he has to those i put up...). i can't stand jerk off shows like that where a bunch of chicks and nerds sit(for how long?) to watch some quirky celebrity play with his pedals. i don't like anyone who thinks thurston moore is cool, or sonic youth. and i think ty's shit sucks....it reminds me of myself, right now, realizing full well that convincing people that they like my music would be a fad, a sham. you have to believe in it. its all very art-school chic, if you ask me. if you want to make this music, you have to honestly consider who likes it, and why and whether they are genuine or not. also, his music does seem to be more of an "experiment" and less of actual "music"(composition). which is cool, but it should be more ritualistic and less of a spectacle like rock shows are. i also question his actual technical skill.
you can hear artistry, you can hear talent, you can hear honesty.....and i guess people hear very different things than i.
ty seems to be a product of stilted NYC trust fund brat culture. i like that my friends and i are obscure(for now)... i aint goin out like some of my schoolmates in KAIJU, which i just found out is on MTV2.
healthy rivalry is fine... and as in politics, we, in the same camp, can have disagreements on how to approach an agenda.

Okay, I follow your thoughts on Ty's stuff. Re: technical ability, not that this snippet of info will change your mind, but: I watched Battles at the Middle East and for all the crazy shit Ian was doing with his guitar, and with guitar and loops, and with playing guitar and keyboard at the same time, etc., Ty was often doing the same. I'm just saying, I think he knows what he's doing.

Eh, sorry you didn't like it. I like the record (History that has no effect) - I'm not sure I get what you mean about it being faddish (is his stuff cool? I thought 'cool' was stuff like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's - I'm out of touch), but whatever - you don't have to like it.
I don't get what Thurston Moore has to do with him, but when you say:
don't like anyone who thinks thurston moore is cool, or sonic youth.
Does that include Mike Watt? Don't you like the Minutemen? Because the Ciccone Youth record is Sonic Youth + Mike Watt, and Moore plays on a bunch of Watt's solo records. Just sayin. You probably just don't like Braxton's association (?) with Thurston Moore. Where do you get that connection, anyway?
Not that it's relevant to Don Cab or Battles, really, but Braxton's father's stuff (Anthony Braxton) is good too. I really like his For Alto record.

haha, you're right. i can't really lump mike watt into that catagory, but i don't think what he does and the way he thinks really has anything to do with my arguement.( i actually havent listened to anything of his in a year or so now that i think about it though) i don't think mike watt is concerned much with the "art" end of music, he's just a punk(the best kind). i could never play with thurston moore(he says stupid shit that makes me cringe), ty braxton can. i looked up all his shows and flyers and such to figure out where he was coming from. its fake, a little too postured, contrived, stilted, transparent, tacky, and rather ambiguous. yes, this shit is trendy now too...you'll see.
in response to aria, well, what i mean is that somtimes you can be unsure about the integrity of music or art because of gimmicks. i don't think that what i saw ian williams doing is "crazy shit" at all, but i LIKE it. sometimes you need to see people off of a stage with an acoustic instrument to see if they really "know" what its all about, dig?
the thurston moore thing is my personal decision. its a way of distancing yourself from a school of thought that you really don't agree with. lets just say, that honestly, i would not play the same show, honestly.
