Hi, I'm a big admirer of the sound Battles generate, and I'm considering buying a Gibson Echoplex (the looping device I heard Williams uses.)
Does anyone know the exact one he uses? There are a few in the series. Also, what exactly does this device do?
thanks.

i'd love a boomerang, but i couldn't justify spending that much money on it. the guitarist and bassist in my band both use boss dd20 and dd6 pedals for loops/delays. the dd20 is great, it can loop 22 seconds or thereabouts. the guitarist got a line 6 dl4 recently as well. he's considering getting a boomerang. personally, i think he's got enough as it is.

Again, what is the maximum loop time on the AKAII Headrush pedal?
I've been thinking about it for quite a while.

hey. I'm a bit of a looper geek. i own two akai headrush, a line dl4, a boss loopstation and have just bought an echoplex. i love my akai's but they are very basic. there is no getting round the fact they are just delay pedals with a loop function. i have the original grey one's and total loop time in 22secs. but your loops must be under 11secs to enable you to over dub. which is exactly what we're looping for i'd assume. usability is great tho..one hit one switch to record and the other to play it back..cant get easier. i do love them but i no longer use them for anything but delays. again with the dl4 you must remember it is just a delay pedal with a loop function on it. the only real advantage it has(altho it is quite an advantage!)is the One Shot function. record a loop, do all your overdubbing then just hit the one shot at the start of each bar to keep it time..great function! oh..also you can half time or double time your loops with the dl4! half time is pretty balls but get seems awesome loops when ye double time it! altho for some unknown reason during at least the past six months the dl4 would just stop working at exactly the same spot in our set at every single gig! without fail! every single time. would never ever happen at practice but at every gig. this became unbelievably frustrating as there was apparently nothing wrong with it when i got it looked at. have heard since this seem fairly notorious for going abit mental! on paper the boss RC 20XL sounds amazing but i've found to be pretty unusable for me. the sound playback was always pretty distorted despite the input and out put controls. it has an amazing memory time or 20 something minutes(!) but to be really able to do anything with the loops they need to be stored! this involves hitting two different switch on the pedal causing the loop to stop. this is total impractical for live looping. as i say great on paper but not for the live looper. as for my latest... have to say the echoplex is amazing! the sound quality is top notch, you can upgrade you memory length(can't be done on any others) and the midi sync-hing is just amazing! especially if more than one band member wants to use loops. you can 'brother sync' echoplex's together and one becomes the master for the timing..believe me this rules! you can midi sync in to a drum machine/click trick and never have to worry about timing again! I'm still getting my head round this machine and i know it can do a world more than what i'm currently doing with it but i have removed all my other looper's and now just use the echoplex. to record, overdub and play back loops took my minutes to work out. the accompanying foot switch is abit daunting at first but i'm loving having separate buttons for each function now. my confidence have increased so much since getting this knowing i now have a QUALITY DEDICATED looper! as i've said there is a world of functions on this that i'm still working out but really cant recommend them enough. my bass player in mow buying one. i would love to try out a boomerang and am already thinking about adding one to the collection but i really cant recommend the wonderful echoplex enough. hope my ramblings help.

you should consider practicing and learning to play the guitar properly, rather than buying a pedal to make yourself sound more interesting.

I use my dd-20 and rc 20 for loops.... I wish I could find the cash for an echoplex... I like useing the dd-20 for looping more actually, but i want to have delays in my loops so I bought the rc-20... I will work with what I got for now!

mawcs, check out the EHX Stereo Memory Man w/Hazarai - you can record your delays in your loops among other things - reverse, octave up/down, tap tempo, true stereo...I haven't really looked into the Echoplex much, but the SMMH is an incredible pedal.

Cool, I hope one of the music stores around here will have one I can try out.
