Last night's show was great. The Poison Arrows and Knot Feeder both had very good sets. I'm looking forward to hearing more from both of those bands.
Battles had a bumpy start -- the crowd was impatient for them to get their equipment set and start playing. Ninety seconds into the first song they blew the club's fuse and the stage went dark. A new fuse and they began the song again - this time the fuse lasted for about three minutes before blowing. They had to unplug the pinball machines and any unnecessary lighting in order to be able to play.
They sounded terrific. I haven't seen Battles before. Really tight and there was a lot of energy both on the stage and in the crowd. I recognized a few of the songs from the EP's and there were quite a few new ones which were more complex and textured than the older recordings. Atlas was a highlight for me. It's really impressive to see how much multi-tasking goes into a Battles show. Playing keyboard with the right hand, while playing the guitar fretboard with the left; fiddling with laptop computer and other electronics while singing and playing guitar, etc.
Anyway, it was great to see Pat, Mike and Ian all playing on the same stage again, albeit with three different bands.

I'm slowly regaining my hearing after standing next to Stanier's kit last night. Battles were great in general, but his drumming especially stood out. Talk about an intense, precise performer. Dick Suffers is right, the multi-tasking was impressive. I also thought that "Atlas" was the highlight of the night. Knot Feeder and The Poison Arrows played a really nice sets. It was cool to finally see Mike, Pat and their new bands perform in person. I'm looking forward to their recordings and future live shows.
