ok, so I just saw battles at numbers here in houston. it was fucking amazing! i'm not easily won over, but the drumming was so solid and all of the music was totally unique and really powerful. hands down one of the best shows i have ever been too. plus i got to watch from backstage. i got to shake ian's hand also. nice bonus. it's funny because i wore my don caballero shirt to the show. i find that humerous.
anyways, great great show. if anyone has a chance to catch them on this tour, it's highly recommended. this is probably one of the few bands out there really utilizing cutting edge technology in music and really pushing the envelope and doing it well. so much talent. plus, the show is so much better than the recordings! take adavantage and check out this band live!

They're coming to Cardiff in August and I'll be attending. I actually like Mirrored besides Atlas which I think is horrendous. Did they play only from Mirrored or dip into some of the old hits too?

I heard that they're pretty disappointing live, but that doesn't seem to be the opinion here.

i had my eyes on Mr. Stanier almost the whole time. That guy is one sick ass drummer. Just so powerful, so driving, and so solid!

I saw Battles last night for the first time, too. It was pretty amazing, but their set was unfortunately cut pretty short. Battles was due to begin their set at midnight, but at 20 after 12 the sound guy gave the bands a heads up -- "It is now 12:23. You have to stop playing by 1:30." Once it hit about 1:15, though, they turned on the house lights and started kicking everyone out at 1:20. So we got to see them play for a little less than an hour. However, for the short time that they were on, they kicked ass. Great sound, etc. I hope they come back some day and maybe start their set a little earlier...
I should also note that as soon as they were done, the whole band (with the exception of Ian) made their way off the stage and began chatting with the audience almost immediately after they were done performing. I thought that was pretty cool.

Saw them just now, a set too short for a $40 show. And for a $40 show, they didnt even have a drum tech guy to help John out, bass drum was moving all the time, and after every song John would readjust the kick drum and put the sandbag back. It was quite depressing.
But last song was ace, I can't remember what it was, improv-ish. Bad trails?
Too bad that I wore a Don Cab shirt, Ian saw it and was quite pissy

Too bad that I wore a Don Cab shirt, Ian saw it and was quite pissy Right, because you're not allowed wear shirts for bands you like to rock concerts. Sheesh...rock stars. WTF.
