Which Storm&Stress album do you prefer, the self-titled or Under Thunder And Fluorescent Light?

I Honestly like both almost equally. I do have to give a small nod towards their first album though. I prefer the production and it hits me in a more visceral, raw place.

I think that "Under Thunder and Fluorescent Light" is one of the best album of last ten years. It's also the best thing in which Ian Williams get involved.

I think "Under Thunder and Flourescent Light..." is the better of the 2. It sounded like they found the sound they were looking for with that album.

both records are fantastic, but i'll go along with most people and say that i enjoy the second one more.
i wish they still existed. when i spoke with Ian at an Ipecac show last year, he said both storm&stress and Don Cab are done for.

i prefer the self-titled myself, although i think they're both equally well-made. it depends on what you're looking for; UTAFL is more of a warm envelope of sounds, while the s/t is almost some hardcore early-80's no wave stuff.
kevin shea does appear on at least one tyondai braxton song ("stand there" from tb's split with parts & labor) -- since tb is in battles, this suggests that ian and kevin could still have a relationship.
'course, y'all are all prolly better in the know than i.

Here's Bradford Cox raving about "Under Thunder" to Pitchfork: pitchfork.com/news/35001-5-10-15-20-bradford-cox/I myself haven't listened to that album in three or four years - I always liked the self-titled better - but when a talented, credible musician like B.C. says that "That album might seriously be my favorite record of all time" it makes me want to dig it out and give another chance. Very cool.
