breadwinner was a "math instrumental type" band that put out some stuf on merge records. early 90's. another band that was said to have coppied off of dc. but not as bad as some pittsburgh bands. mihaly, and the bwinner stuff was b4 f respect. but they were mainly compared to "jumbo" from pitt.

Actually Breadwinner were pre-Don Cab: 1990-92. Members of Don Cab cited them as an early influence. They never put out a proper full-length but all of their EPs are collected on a CD called "The Burner" which is well worth checking out -- great early heavy guitar / odd time sig. stuff, Albini-rec'd. Guitarist Pen Rollings' new band Loincloth (discussed elsewhere on this forum) are even better IMHO -- they pretty much take "math metal" or whatever you want to call it just about as far as it can go. Got anything to add, Mike Banfield?
