I remember this band being mentioned once or twice on these forums before so i decided to check them out. I bought the last train out album from cdbaby which is fairly good overall. Still it has it's moments, and i was kind of left wanting more.
They are all great musicians, i was interested to see Eric Kiernowski on bass. His old band Godzik Pink are definitely worth looking into also. Well what i was really wondering, if anyone here is into them was: What are their other cd's like in comparison? I'm looking into getting the other two. LST Pirates looks to be pretty hard to find though. I came across one review of one of the two i haven't heard and noticed more songs and a lot more length to the songs which is what got me intrigued. Any thoughts?? Gracias

I have every Upsilon Acrux CD except the one you bought. I would definitely check out their latest, Volucris Avis Dirae-Arum. For that release, they picked up a second drummer and it makes for some truly great tunes. The album's more calculated and song-oriented than their other releases, I think.
Aside from that, their first release, In the Acrux of the Upsilon King, is probably the next best. I wasn't that impressed with Last Pirates of Upsilon.

Volucris is definitely the most accessible cd they've done so far, it's probably their best as well. The way i see it is that last train out and volucris are more song orientated whilst the first two albums have more extended forms. Check out A Possible Link To Klaus as well, pre-upsilon band a few of the members were in, they only have about 4 songs that are available here: www.geocities.com/klaus0101/POSSIBLE.htm

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I got Volucris a few days back, have given it a few listens and it's definitely better than last train out. Track no.10, 45 rodents is a fucken crack up.

FauxAss, you missed out. You should have acquired a fake ID, or else bought a plane ticket to Chicago and snuck into to the show at Ronny's Tuesday night. I know it would have cost a lot of money and you probably have to go to work or class every morning, but it totally would have been worth it, and you could have made it back to Connecticut in time for all that. Thursday morning, anyway.
Ups. Acr. were really really good. I think they sound a bit, I don't know, clinical (?) on their records but live, they're a lot of fun. They even prefaced one of their songs with a bit of "Sweet Home Alabama". The Moog stuff was great, holding everything together almost like vocal melodies or something -- I don't remember hearing much or any synth stuff on Galapagos Momentum. I definitely owe it to myself to spend a bit more time with their records, as Upsilon Acrux are one of the best bands currently playing this type of music.

I just recently started listening to these guys. I have Volucris Avis Dirae-Arum and I'm liking it so far. They remind me a bit of that band Ahleuchatistas. Or maybe Ahleuchatistas remind me of Upsilon. Either way, good stuff. There's a guy on amazon dot com that does reviews of their albums. It's pretty interesting. His username is one-arm. Most of his reviews are worthwhile. Especially the ones of Upsilon. Check it: www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A2TC8TMEPKBLSI/ref=cm_cr_dp_pdp
