Saw her last night at the Double Door. No Zach Hill, which was kind of disappointing, but the drummer she had (Kevin something?) was excellent in his own right, and he attacked the songs from some different angles than Zach did on the album. And yes, Marnie is amazing, breaking down the "boy's club" mentality of technical indie rock with every virtuosic finger-tapped guitar run and goofy "aw shucks, did I just play that?" smile. "In Advance of the Broken Arm" is almost certainly my favorite album of 2007.

Well, three months after the fact, I have just learned that "Kevin something" who played drums for Marnie in Chicago is actually Kevin Shea, ex-Storm&Stress and a million other projects. And I actually saw Kevin play most of a Storm&Stress show a few years ago, but it was a very different style of music on a totally different kit. Great drummer, though, and it's good to know that he doesn't always play in that "drums falling down a flight of stairs" style.
