is it the solid steel model? i have a pearl cast steel snare that's pretty much the same thing as the SS except for appearance... cast is really the way to go.

my ears were almost bleeding wen i got out of our pratice place yesterday does anyone here use ear protection during gigs/rehearsals? i've been using those little reusable in-ear silicone deallies for the last while but they take out too much high end so i can't always hear the guitar very well. i had been using tissue which is pretty good but i'm trying to find a happy medium between hearing everything clearly and not damaging my ears.

yeah i use cheap yellow ears plugs that i stole form my work.they are not really good they cut all the high and i get only low end but since i just got my snare, for the first jam with it i dindt put ears plugs so i could hear the snare cutting trough the music.anyway i am singing too so most of the time i found my self almost wispering in the mic cuz with the ear plugs i hear my self singing really loud in my ears but it is not comming out well in the p.a cuz iam actually singing softlly in the mic..anyone got a sugestion for better ear plugs... and yes it is the solid steel model with a black chrome finish on it and it is really great iam looking forward to the show i do next friday to ear it in a live setting(by the way for shows i dont use ear plugs cuz i want to make sure that i hear everything right)

52 string snare? Holy crap.
I always use earplugs (the crappy yellow ones...I have a large box of them) for practicing/jamming and for watching louder bands. For playing a gig (or watching certain beloved bands) I try to pull the things out slightly to get the right balance of bass and treble. Never works for very long though. Most the musicians I've played with don't bother with earplugs at all. Seems kinda retarded honestly...hearing loss is permanent.
Probably the best ear protection is the really expensive reusable earplugs that are contoured to the shape of your ear canal. They supposedly attentuate every sonic frequency equally, so it sounds like god turned the volume down or something.
