So everyone is always trying to label music and stick it into a certain genre. While I think that this is helpful in some instances, some people go way too far with it.
Some ridiculous musical genres I've heard/encountered:
Cosmic Folk Japanese Art Metal Screamo Post Rock No-Wave

the term idm: intelligent dance music really shits me... just some albini thoughts on this matter on wiki:
says of IDM "As the idiom developed, the music became more and more about the novelty of certain sounds and treatments, ridiculously trivial aspects like tempo and choice of samples, and the public personae of the makers. It became a race to novelty. I find that kind of evolution beneath triviality. It is a decorative, not substantive, evolution."
Albini never holds back does he.

I don't like the term IDM either but a lot of my favorite things to listen to fit this category and I feel there's a lot of really good stuff to be found within it. L'usine is maybe my favorite, but also more well-known folks like Autechre, Plaid, etc. I seek out whatever I can that might provide similar enjoyment from this ill-tagged genre.
Anyway, I'm also not a fan of the terms "funk-metal" or "illbient", even though I like some artists that get classified as such. Another stupid one is "riot grrrl". Oh, and "twee pop". I'd be embarassed to even say it out loud; I don't think I ever have.

forgot about funk-metal. i pretty much hate funk-anything. rubber-thumbed goons like flea and les claypool should be all bundled up and dropped in a volcano. 2-step, uk garage, grime, eski etc. quite like some of it, but it really doesn't need all those names.
