I went last night. Unfortunately, the setlist was almost identical to the one they did the last time they were in town, back in August '08.
I recorded the show, you may have seen me hanging out by the soundboard. I'll try and post the recording later today. It turned out very nice.

John, I think they've started every show in the last year with the same five songs to accommodate Jason's instrument-swapping and all the different tunings.
I very nearly blew this one off but I'm glad I didn't because overall it was a stronger performance than their last Chicago show - more energy, less trainwrecks, and a very young and VERY enthusiastic audience.
Before they played a single note Jason and Damon talked about the Steelers and did the usual "maybe we won't even play music tonight" routine for almost ten minutes as Gene stood there looking impatient and PISSED. Then Jason finally kicked off "Shop Vac" and they actually nailed it - probably for the first time since they recorded it!
We heard most of the usual WCLP and 'Gasm jams plus "DC3/Afro Pop" and "Repeat Defender". No "Punkgasm" or "Nicked and Liqued" though.
DD/MM/YYYY were really good too, especially the songs where the guy was singing and snaring at the same time.

I agree, I thought the performance was a strong one, and yes the audience was enthusiatic (and very young, I'm starting to feel old).
I have to admit when Damon first walked out onstage I was a little worried. It looked like he hadn't slept in days, and I thought it may affect his performance, but he definitely woke up and played a great show.
I did enjoy Damon's banter more last time though. I know it sounds silly, but I always look forward to what Damon will or will not say at each performance.
I liked the MM/DD/YYYY set, but towards the end of it I thought everything was starting to sound repetitive.
All in all a good night. I had never been to Reggie's Rock Club before last night either. I would definitely go back.

Then Jason finally kicked off "Shop Vac" and they actually nailed it - probably for the first time since they recorded it! Ha Ha Ha!!! I never heard Ian screw up loops anywhere near as much as Jason has been on some of these boots I've been hearing.

I never heard Ian screw up loops anywhere near as much as Jason has been on some of these boots I've been hearing. Well, to be fair to the new guys, Ian Williams has never been the most precise guitarist in the world, and most of his loops on Am. Don were more textural than rhythmic, so it didn't matter if Damon played in synch with them or not. With the current group, yeah, Gene will occasionally fumble a loop here and there, but most of the trainwrecks seem to happen when Damon comes in on the wrong beat, or he struggles to keep up with the loops. Anyway, it was pretty amazing to be able to listen to the recording of the show less than 24 hours after I was there! Thanks John!!@!
