I have been a fan for 10+ years and finally got to see Don Cab live. Amazing live show, musicianship was superb. Damon is an amazing drummer but needs some self control.
Dear Damon: Your arguments in between sets with those dumb ass guys in the front row was annoying beyond belief. Why do you let it get under your skin? Why do you even react to it? You are a professional musician who has toured the world for how many years and you have no better coping mechanism for a 20 year old kid yelling stupid shit at you??
C'mon, if it was just playful sparring that would be one thing but you were obviously angry. (Called him a Dumb Faggot??) Grow up man. Instead of focussing on the rest of the crowd that paid good money and was enjoying the show, you chose to get in a third grade pissing match with this college kid. Don't you realize that if you didn't respond to it.....it would stop!
Anyway, just very disappointed in that aspect of the show, I don't understand why you can't rise above it. Acknowledging the heckling is bringing yourself down to that level and I would like to think you're better than that.

See now, the Damon/Audience banter is part and parcel of a Don Cab gig.
Plus, the amount of audience conflict is directly proportional to the awesomeness of the live music.

WHO'S GOT THE BOOTLEG?!?
Seriously though, it can't be as bad as you're making it out to be? A meltdown? Really?

from what i recall the heckler yelled out "hey i like your lips, they're the same color as your shirt!" to which damon replied "well you're a faggot, dickhead." and that seemed to be the end of it. other than that damon seemed to be in an okay mood the rest of the night.

Seriously though, it can't be as bad as you're making it out to be? A meltdown? Really? For the last two or three years in particular Damon has had a real chip on his shoulder about Don Cab not receiving their proper due - he tried to break through to a larger audience by signing to Relapse but he's still playing the Grog Shop after ten or fifteen years; he gets upset when fans request the old songs at shows whereas he used to just ignore them; and these days he does a lot more bragging (in interviews and on stage) about how great his band is, whereas he used to just let the music do the talking. There's always a certain amount of Damon vs. audience friction at any Don Cab show; it's just taken on a different flavor in recent years. Ourcaballero, in a different thread about the same show, said "the crowd banter was excellent." Go figure. It sounds like you witnessed a very good performance by one of your favorite bands - tell us more about that!

FYI, those few kids who have been mentioned were not at the first row. They were at the second and third rows. My friends were at the front row. Heh heh.
Even my father had noticed the somewhat despondent reactions and responses of Damon. He told me that the show seemed a bit less professional in comparison to the last Grog Shop show that we had attended. Damon's declaration, "You're a fucking faggot, dickhead!" was most likely a simple joke in fair taste. After all, Damon did crack a slight grin upon shouting it.

Pfff usually I don't care if any musician gets mad at the audience or whatever. But it's never really a fun thing because I constantly worry they're going to get up and stop playing. I had that at Don Cab show in Antwerp. Damon couldn't really get mad at he crowd because everyone was hella impressed and overwhelmed (they had just released Punkgasm ant everything was kickass). So instead he got mad at the backstage providings and moaned about there being no towels or ice. And because of the considerable vodka intake, that was really funny.
But yeah I don't really like it when artists complain about the crowd, especially when it's not that bad in the first place...
That was as far as it went...
