I like Don Caballero alot. I feel they are a great band wit an impressive body of work, one that informs my aesthetic beliefs, and i feel should and could be appreciated by all.
So why is it that people are so put off by their music?
I have played WBNR to my sister, my girlfriend, friends and relatives. Many of them say that its 'noise' or that the only enjoyable thing is the drums.
Is this because Don Cab is not instantly accessible? Does it take a special breed of person to take the time to discover what DC has to offer?
Would like your stories... and possibly a way to share this fantastic music with the uninitiated.

i think it can be easily argued that since the majority of music that reaches the mass public is written in such a uniform way, when they hear something out of the mold (32 bar form, verse/chorus,verse chorus, fucking vocals, etc.) it doesn't come to them naturally.

I agree with fvgazi on this one. As far as turning people on to different kinds of music, I've given up. If they don't/can't find something they like about don cab or anyone else that I listen to, that's just their thing. I'll stick with listening to what I like and trying out everything else, other people can stick to polished pop and green day as long as they don't try to make me listen to it.

i think its because over time don cab evolved from this early-hardcore or almost black metal style of songwriting and started to go towards an atmospheric tapping-led style. a lot of times if a person cant hum the melody of a song its beyond their comprehension and ive seen a lot of people label stuff 'noise' that i wouldnt consider it, like early hella. theres a lot of really soulful melodies in those songs that stick with you, but people still consider it noise music. im sure king crimson and mahavishnu got the same comparisons back in the day.
