This is probably a pretty simlpe question for some: I don't have a very nice stereo system. I have a fairly nice record player hooked into it. Because the system itself sucks so much as, I have to wire the record player into a pre-amp first. I recently moved and, since I hooked the whole system back up, the sound coming through from the record player is very distorted. So, is the pre-amp shot? or does someone have another suggestion.

make sure the pre-amp is going into the correct rca on your stereo(?). phono? aux?, ?. same with the record player to the pre-amp....at least it sounds right in my head.

Chad you IDIOT!!! Do you think that is the only way to connect record players?!?!? Use your imagination you sucking loser! Maybe if you spent some time disassembling the wires of record players and RCA cables etcetera in the style of Egnnke Ratchen, you would know enough to be able to even say anything about record players!!!

i don't use record players. i had a roommate that had the same problem aria has and thats what she did. maybe you should help aria out instead of just calling me an idiot for trying to help. i'm not an electrician or an equipment tech.

I'm a procrastinator to the nth degree and I still have not fixed my turntable. I've tried the few suggestions that were made, all of which were things I had tried. Anything else before I actually start investing in either help or new equipment?...

oh, i didnt read this before
most likely you have your turntable via phono preamp going in to the 'phono' jack on your stereo. thus it is being preamplified twice, overdriving the power amp section of your receiver/amp.

whoops, forgot to mention the solution..
have your phono preamp go in to the 'aux' or 'video' jacks on your amp
