Damon Che has been storing and looking after the master tapes for every Don Caballero recording ever made (with the exception of Punkgasm), for nearly 30 years. The quality of the recordings on this medium degrade as time goes on. As some of these recordings are between 15 and 30 years old, we felt now was the time to have them transferred to a digital format so they may be preserved forever.
In honour of this project, we are starting a go fund me, to raise money so we can take it a few steps further. Go Fund Me Link: www.gofundme.com/f/don-caball...
Our monetary goal will go towards a few different things.
1: The costs of the digitizing project itself.
2: Helping Damon purchase equipment which will allow him to create new content for everybody, including drum playthroughs, tutorials and even online drum lessons.
3: Funds will also go towards compensating people, who help us out with things outside of our scope of expertise, such as editing, photography and graphic design, so we may release things like new merch items on the webstore, higher quality videos and better content in general.
You can donate at the link in the video description, find it through the Instagram page or Google search “Don Caballero Go Fund Me”
On behalf of Damon Che and myself. Thank you for your continued support of this band.
Here's the fundraiser description from the Go Fund Me Page:
Don Caballero is a legendary band whose musical contributions have influenced countless musicians and listeners worldwide. At the heart of it all is drummer Damon Che, whose iconic, idiosyncratic skills behind the kit have helped transform the genre of experimental music.
Damon has kept watch over the band’s discography, which was recorded onto 2"/24 track magnetic tape starting in the early 90's up until 2006, totalling about 22 reels worth of tape. Due to natural degradation over time, the quality of these tapes eventually become very difficult to transfer over to the digital medium. Furthermore, the equipment and skillsets required for working with tape has become increasingly scarce. We therefore found it necessary to convert these tapes into a digital format before they became unplayable or before the technology and skills to preserve the recordings became obsolete.
Besides the costs of digitization, funds will also go towards facilitating new Don Caballero media, including merch, videos, and online lessons. New music is an unknown at this point, but it certainly doesn't hurt the chances either.
We thank everyone for your interest, potential donations and continued support for this band’s legacy.
