mr. phase, i'm confused by you picking don cab the 2nd. i walked my dog listening to it the other day and i did the five and half miles faster than ever. good shout on autechre though. i don't know ep 7, but the split album they did with the hafler trio sounds like what i'd imagine electricity tastes like. precisely my point...it's such a fucked up album that i think doing anything while listening to it would be worthwhile. and i actually meant to say draft 7.30 instead of ep 7...i think it was actually lp 7 and ep 5 was the way it was, but draft is just superior in every way...when it leaked it was new years eve of i guess 2001? 2002? one of those years...i listened to it 8 times through all the way and then pitched it down about 30% and listened to it another 3 or 4 times in a row. clearly their most 'out there' record. i also think 'harvey milk - my love is higher than your assessment of what my love could be' is a notable choice.

i hate to keep this going (we're unlikely to ever get a scientifically sound answer), but i don't really agree with this conditioning notion. perhaps it counts for some discomfort in sound/vision, and certainly more and more exposure does make these things easier to take, but i still think most of it is a natural dislike, more than a learned one. even putting one hand in hot water and the other in cold water at the same time (a little tenuous perhaps) confuses the brain. try it, then straight away put both hand in tepid water and you'll see what i mean. stop me if i'm getting off the point.

As human beings our view on music is definately affected by both:
A) Our environment, and how we have been conditioned to or react to sound.
and
B) Our natural tendencies towards sound... as in sound waves and how they interact with the ear and brain.
So I think we are really ALL correct in our assumptions.
It's funny because even though I felt inclined to post this, this post really doesn't contain anything that anyone didn't already know.
But I guess maybe sometimes it is nice to see something in actual writing or print to help REALIZE it.
