From: www.scatrecords.com/Yes, this blurb was posted on April 1st, but it's not a joke. In other news, 12XU just opened a message board that includes a forum for The Speaking Canaries: www.12xu.net/forums/

I was wondering what she was talking about and I found this in a Google search: www.aestheticized.com/ (Scroll down a bit) So I guess dates are starting to appear but I haven't seen many others.

Yikes, as soon as I posted that I find this on the Scat website: Hell has frozen over, the Speaking Canaries are touring! See them quick, before Damon changes his mind! Seriously, though, Damon says he is in guitar playing mode these days, so expect more action than usual on the Canaries front over the next year. There will be a new Don Caballero album at some point as well, but right now his focus is on the Canaries. Everything listed here is confirmed, most of the tbas are on hold somewhere, just avoiding gun-jumping. There will be some more Cobra Verde dates to post soon too.
Sun 5-15 Khyber / Philadelphia, PA Mon 5-16 tba Tue 5-17 tba / Washington, DC Wed 5-18 Local 506 / Carrboro, NC Thu 5-19 Village Tavern / Mt. Pleasant, SC Fri 5-20 Common Grounds / Gainesville, FL Sat 5-21 New World Brewery / Tampa, FL Sun 5-22 Sluggos / Pensacola, FL Mon 5-23 tba Tue 5-24 Wills Pub / Orlando, FL Wed 5-25 tba Thu 5-26 Otto Bar / Baltimore, MD Fri 5-27 Rex's Bar / Westchester, PA Sat 5-28 tba / Pittsburgh or NYC
LOL at "Pittsburgh or NYC." I hope they opt for the latter. That would be on my birthday.

Thanks for posting the tour dates Tetragrammatn.
I'm moving from the New York area to (most likely) western PA at the end of May, so actually either of those locations could work for me.
What are their chances of scheduling a Saturday show in NYC at a decent venue with roughly 3 weeks notice?

Beats me. Last time they played a one-off show in New York they played at the Delancey, which doesn't even regularly put on shows, as far as I know.

This is the May 5 press release from Scat Records:
DAMON CHE SHIFTS FOCUS TO SPEAKING CANARIES, BAND TO TOUR IN MAY
May 5, 2005 – Damon Che, mercurial multi-instrumentalist and founder of Don Caballero and Speaking Canaries, is taking the Canaries on the road for a two week stint down the eastern seaboard beginning in Philadelphia on May 15. “Right now I just really want to play guitar,” says Che. Indeed, the trio has recently recorded basic tracks for a new album which should see release by the end of this year. Although the group has continued to perform live, this tour marks the first full-scale Canaries outing since 1995.
Che spent much of 2004 successfully leading a new line up of Don Caballero across the U.S. There will be a new Don Cab album at some point as well, but “we’re waiting for the songs to gel a bit more, when it’s time to record the new record we’ll do it. But right now my focus is on Speaking Canaries.” This is excellent news for rock fans; there are few guitarists with Damon’s technical facility who are as comfortable and adept at simple emotional expression as shredding.
“…napalm riffing and glass-spear harmonics that tell you exactly what Husker Du would have sounded like with Eddie Van Halen and J Mascis on four-handed guitar.” –David Fricke, Rolling Stone
“…a joyous rush of freeway-riding riffs and anthemic air-guitar rock.” –Andrew Carden, MOJO
“If Philip K. Dick had been a guitar hero, he’d have sounded just like this.” –Rafer Guzmán, SF Bay Guardian

Anybody have any leads on where the TBA shows may be?
Also, I'd read reviews of the Khyber show.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any new info regarding the TBA shows. Please post here with news.
I'd also like to read reviews, set lists, etc. too.
This blurb makes absolutely no sense...

Saw the Knyber show last night. Aside from track 1 off Terrestrially Challenged and two covers (more on that in a second), it was all new material. Damon was almost apologetic re: the state of the new songs, which clearly aren't finished yet, but all are chock-full of killer riffs, and pretty much pick up right where the last LP left off -- I think this will be a great record, especially with the studio vocals.
Some interesting covers, including what I'm almost certain was a Gang of Four song (done amazingly well), and Panama (yes, THAT Panama). Damon actually asked the audience for requests, and when someone yelled "Panama," he was actually hyped on the idea -- "Do you really want to hear that? Because we'll play the fuck out of that song." He made good on the promise -- a little loose, of course, but damn-near perfect (the bassist sang it). I'd love to know how many other VH jams the band has rehearsed as much as this one.
Gene Doyle played drums -- didn't recognize the guy on bass.

As far as the TBA shows... the Scat website updated, it looks like they're not playing at all. Fuuuuuuudge.... I guess I'll just catch them the next time they're around.

Very cool dbo. Let us know how it goes.
Nice, thanks for posting this write-up ubergoober.
Damn, I just noticed this too. I'm sure that there will be more dates as they develop the new material.
