Buried at the bottom of the Scat Records website after the news about some GBV reissues, there's this:

Recorded in 1990? Can't believe my initial thought when listening to new music by a band I really like was "that mix is fucking horrible".

USPS attempted to deliver a package to me yesterday from a sender named "Chunklet". Could it be...?

Figured I'd give the two tracks another listen. Enjoying them a lot more this time round.

I received my copy last weekend. It's good. It's an instrumental rock record with Damon Che on drums, yet it doesn't sound anything like early Don Cab, which further proves just how much Banfield and Morris brought to the table in that band, and how distinctive an aesthetic Che has when HE's the tank commander. Even without vocals, "Toblewee Uslywus" has swagger and sleaze. Even without drums, the oddly titled first track has that undefinable Damon-ness and Pittsburgh-osity. (At least some of the Pittsburgh-osity must be attributed to recording engineer Lee Hollihan, whose trebly reverb is the sound of early '90s Pittsburgh.)
If you like this band or read this forum, you already know you need this record and probably already own it. For me, the best thing about the release of this new record is the fact that it's got me listening to my old Speaking Canaries LPs again. "The Joy Of Wine" is much better than I remembered and "Life Like Homes" (the song) is just about as great as rock music gets.
Has everybody seen this?

Ordered the very last copy from Henry last night. I was planning on doing it for a while, but kept putting it back on the burner, as i had too much stuff going on in my musical life in the early part of the year, but yesterday i saw that he was down to the last few copies, and snatched the very last, with the extra 7 inch and all that. Cost me 41 $ total to get it shipped to me in the great white north, so this morning on my way to work, i blasted this record while smoking some herbs, and boy it's good, like VERY FUCKING GOOD. Now can't wait to spin the wax on my system....!

Got the actual record this week, looks fantastic. Great job from Henry at Chunklet. Now the actual music is nothing short of stellar, it has that old Caballero vibe, something akin to Unresolved Karma era Cab stuff, it also sound like it was recorded by the same guy who did the unresolved karma sessions( maybe it wasn't,i don't know) It's not as flashy or over the top guitar-wise as it was on later Canaries records, but you see the seed of the future being planted here. I am really glad i jumped on the very last record that Henry had, it's worth every pennies of the 42 canadian dollars i spent on this. But again my wife call me a Che fanboy, so i guess i'm pretty biased....

I'm ashamed to say it took me years to finally get around to listening to Speaking Canaries (the whole Van Halen comparisons didn't really bump it to the top of my list) but I finally did with this release and I absolutely love it. I switched over to Get Out Alive and have been listening to that a ton as well, amazing stuff. Listened to a few tracks off of other 2 albums as well, quality material across the board. May I one day be forgiven for my sins.
