What do you think of the new record? I've heard a few songs and really like it.

Yeah, it's pretty good. I need to get the CD-R version, though. Mostly the same stuff, but longer versions.

You should hear him sing Doobie Brothers songs at Karaoke.

I don't really have a whole lot to say about Get Out Alive. It is a kind of uneven compilation containing 5 of the greatest rock songs ever fucking made. It's rock fucking genius. However, owning both of the CD's I think it's a travesty that the short version was even released. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND BUY THE STANDARD VERSION OF GET OUT ALIVE. What an absolute miscalculation. Doesn't include the first ever recording of "Stuffed with Fear" that isn't shitty. Has that lame little electro version of "Enormous Hope", and truncated versions of a few other songs(moreover, it's just not very representative of the scope of the band). The long version basically has all of "Life-like Homes", an ignored monument of personal rock genius available on CD for the first, and a few other great songs, particularly Stuffed with Fear, which is absolutely mind-blowing. I hope for rock's sake that people pay attention to what Damon's doing this time around. But I don't really expect that to happen. Buy the long version of Get Out Alive and make your friends listen to it, and maybe they'll tour again. And then you'll see.

To be honest, after don cab, i would think that damon would write more interesting guitar parts than whats on get out alive, I mean for someone who is very inventive on the drums, to make an album with power chords and pop punk melodies is dissapointing. I do like the vocals but thats about it. It seems like get out alive is an all too similar record that I've heard before. With the exception of vocals, all together a dissapointing effort.

then you obviously haven't heard any other canaries in the past because this is basicly what the project always sounded like

To the guy who questioned the creativity of Damon's guitar playing, check out Songs for the Terretrially Challenged (still by far the best, most fully realized, Canaries album). The scope of the album is amazing, and though a part of the Canaries appeal is the pop-piness, the strangeness and fucked-upedness is as much a part of what's going on. Within the scope of what Damon's doing, which is kind of creating an emotionally involving rock landscape, I don't think I've ever heard as "creative" a guitarist. I'll agree that Hospital Comedian and Song on a Record you can't get are fairly lame, but this is more of a "get shit out there so it can be heard" type of deal than anything else. I can only assume that you bought the short version, which shouldn't have been released anyway. Buy the long version and if you're not impressed, I'd be very surprised. But as far as interesting guitar approach and whatever, buy Songs for the Terrestrially Challenged as the texture, power, composition, yada, yada, are both absolutely unique and creatively awe inspiring. That is if you actually listen to the record for awhile and appreciate everything that's going on, which is no small feat. I wish Damon would concentrate the vast majority of his time on the Speaking Canaries, but I think he's basically lost faith in the public's ability to get beyond the "hey, this sounds like Van Halen, Van Halen's dumb," thing. Sure they sound like Van Halen but they also sound like what an alien civilization millions of years more advanced than ours might sound like if they decided to rock once and for all. At least Terrestrially Challenged does. Life-like homes is a little more straightforward but it's still fucking great. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THE SHORT VERSION OF GET OUT ALIVE, OR JUDGE THE BAND BY IT.

Mr. Neodies, or whatever, you are a retard. Didn't you see the quotation marks? That means I'm like full of irony. I used the words creative and, um, some other words in quotation marks in that last posting. It was supposed to mean that I was approaching the seriousness applied to our subject from an understandably ironic perspective. But instead you have enlightened us with the fact that many people have played guitar for many years, and that no one can have different ideas on such a well-worn steed. It's like English or something, I only like Shakespeare. On a more incendiary note: what's up with that retarded review of the Speaking Canaries on the Don Fanallero title page. I mean I'm sure no one cares what some Philadelphia ex-punker whose been out of the loop for 20 years, but still tries to tie in indie-cred because he has to justify his life, is saying about The(e) Speaking Canaries last/tragic/valiant/brave attempts(actually I don't know the difference between valiant and brave) at salvaging rock and roll. I'll write your goddamned Speaking Canaries review motherfucker(first time in 8 years motherfucker has been spelled phonetically correct). I just want to write something after that last sentence because it was too cute. Also, I am indie-rock illumanati. Or something. So let me write the real Speaking Canaries review that appears on this page. I don't drink, life is too short for horseplay. Although I think I am going to master this smiley vernacular in the near future. Or maybe
