yeah, i love how they try to compare him to other drummers. a bit of this a bit of that... a touch of this, a touch of that.... ridiculous. the man has his own style and is his own entity in the musical and drumming community. so typical of humans to try to associate something or slap a label (or in this case an influence_+ on something. decent article anyhow

Dude, I WROTE half that article! I cannot and will not take credit for the full article, but I have been watching it for over a year now and have made many grammatical / syntactical / factual corrections, and added the whole Gear section. I copied it from the Modern Drummer article and added a few observations from members of this forum. I agree, Cliff, that much of the article is lacking. The part about Damon's influences SUCKS - I didn't write it, but I couldn't really think of a better way to express it, either - so for now, I guess it stays. It would be better if it listed some drummers that Damon has actually cited as genuine influences, but I don't think that "Peart, Copeland, and the three guys from the Scratch Acid / Jesus Lizard nexus" really tells the whole story - know what I mean? Keep an eye on that Wikipedia article. It's changing all the time. If anyone here can think of any better way to rephrase some of that shit, by all means, go in there and change it. Wikipedia belongs to everyone.

i'm pretty positive that the aux. snare listed on the wiki article is a slingerland radio king in blue sparkle, since i have one that looks exactly like it. although, in the MD article he's using a metal snare, so who knows...
he also refers to neil peart as "god" ,or something along the lines of that, so i think it's safe to assume that peart was an influence on mr. che...

As a footnote: besides drumming, Damon Che is an excellent firespitter. I saw Chavez once in Brussels, with Damon on bass. In the middle of a song he took off his guitar and started firespitting. Strange guy...

Strange guy... firespitting is about as usefull as juggling. i'd be more impressed if he could benchpress a hippo.

Nice article...I was stoked to hear that Damon uses Pearl Export kick and toms. My first kit was an Export, which I haven't used in the last few years since my friend who I started a band with loaned me a larger, "nicer" Gretsch kit. The Export snare more or less blows in comparison, but I've always felt that the Pearl toms were more distinct/less boomy than the Gretsch toms. Since the band broke up earlier this year I've been contemplating going back to the Export and just replacing the snare with an OCDP.

This is a good article. esp.
"Maelstrom: You can tell us about your cymbals.
Damon Che: I’d love a Sabian endorsement. "
